Shield Tree Wood is our private, tranquil, inspiring basecamp at Thornsett Fields Farm, Briargrove Road,Thornsett.
Established in 2018 by Rachel and Kerrie and driven by a passion to provide a safe woodland space for Forest School programmes, the wood is constantly evolving.

Fire-circle with permanent shelter to cater for small groups to whole classes (we can facilitate larger groups with staggered snack times!!)

Woodland workshop – a permanent sheltered space in a quieter area of Shield Tree Wood, perfect for facilitating woodland craft projects or develop tools skills.

Mud kitchens – an spacious area where all ages can nurture creativity, connect with nature and get muddy! We love it!!

Woodland crafts area – a sheltered area for getting creative using the natural resources that Shield Tree Wood has to offer.

Composting Toilets – we have our very own composting toilet which helps us to be a more sustainable woodland (and no more cleaning out of our camping loos!!).

Yurt – our yurt is our mindful quiet space where children, young people and adults can retreat, find a book to read, lie down and relax on our blankets or share a conversation. It is a great space for group storytelling, songs, games, 1:1 support or simply warming up when our hands and feet get a bit chilly!
